Fuse Box Diagram Needed
Recently, I decided to fix the odometer and clock on my 1989 Mercedes 300SE. The clock capacitor and odometer gears had been long defective (in addition to the odometer caps). Certain as I was that the clock had been fixed since I had ran it off of the 12v rail on an ATX power supply all night, it still didn’t tick on like I had expected. Just a fuse of course, but which fuse? There are 24 of them just sitting here unlabeled! None of them obviously bad. So which one controls the clock? Just a Google search away, right? No, of course not! Everyone knows Google is as good as useless nowadays! Several wasted minutes (and megabytes) later, I find a diagram for my car – great! A blurry jpeg scan of the card that clips into the top of the fuse box lid.
I guess I’ve never been smart enough to bookmark decent diagram, but I am smart enough that there had to be a better way. That’s probably why Mercedes had the wisdom to put a diagram there in the first place. Only problem is that there isn’t one available to just print out – that is, until now!
SVG Recreation
This is my SVG recreation of the fuse box insert. Simply download it, print it on cardstock at 100% scale, and slide it into your fuse box cover!
The part number of this insert is 126.545.21.00. It’s based on this scan from the benzworld forum.
It’s not an exact recreation, for instance it uses the Inter typeface because a. I like it, b. it’s free, and c. I didn’t care to figure out the original font. But this is close enough for a hastily done attempt. I made it in inkscape. I used an OCR tool for a lot of the text, so if it isn’t accurate then send me an email and I will fix it.
The funny thing is, people are charging about $20 for one of these on ebay right now. Granted, that is probably for an original, but still it is outrageous how much people will charge for a piece of paper that you can easily print out yourself. Feel free to try out that gambit for yourself selling these, but kindly donate some BTC if you happen to make it big selling paper cutouts of my SVG.
